Time To Reinvent Yourself Part II....3 hours and counting until the New Year!

Now that you've had a chance to work your new hair do and self pamper yourself, it is now time to check the mental health of your closets. What are your closets saying to you...Are there useless pieces tucked in every inch and crevice of your closet that you haven't wore in a least a year or do you have an over abundance of some of the same items and can't quite grasp what you need from season to season? If you fit any of these scenarios than it is time to restructure your closets and wardrobe...

First step is to assess your current style, has it changed, is it changing or does it need updated. Clear all items out of your closet that you haven't wore in a year and create 2 piles--one for charity and the other for friends/family.

Second step is after you have cleared your closet of all excess baggage, it is time to evaluate what items you need to update, replace or add to your wardrobe. Ask yourself, do I have the basic wardrobe items (Great pair of denim jeans, White crisp oxford shirt, Pencil skirt, Black blazer, Stilettos, boots and a little black dress)...If you don't have any of these items, I strongly suggest that you invest! These basic items will help you build a healthy wardrobe.

Third step is to stay away from to many trendy pieces because these are the items that you typically end up having an overabundance of at the end of the year! As you begin to create a healthy closet, you will begin to notice that you found a lot of items you forgot you had and are still useful!

Finally, you have begun to feel the transformation of your old ego fading away and your new self is ready to shine bright in to the new year! Now, promise me that you will continue to do periodic maintenance on yourself! HAPPY NEW YEAR...Embrace the new you!

Time To Reinvent Yourself Part I----12 Days Before The New Year And Counting..

The end of the year is always a good marker for self reflection! The signs of a new year approaching always forces me to put my life goals, self image and my relationships with others in perspective. I was prompted to write this blog by reading one of my blog buddies most recent post...onecreativecookie.blogspot.com! I think it is pertinent for one to take periodic assessments of themselves. We live in a society that requires us to work hard for basic necessities and luxury items. So, I believe that every once in a while you have to stop and listen to what your mind, body and soul is yelling at you! The way one views him/herself is a major indicator in how one expresses him/her self to the world. The first step in recreating your self image is to change any negative thoughts and feelings about yourself. Now, I like to work on my public self first because it is the easiest and often the most infectious in terms of my mood. I feel good when my hair is on point! Once I have settled in to my new hair do, I tend to asses and see if it fits with my current wardrobe...Stay tuned for next blog post--How To Shop In Your Own Closet!

Above, I found some great hair styles on essence.com that will help get your creative juices flowing for your new look.

How creative can one get with designing a suit? Well, apparently many well known designers contemplated this same question. WWD featured a slew of suit ideas for Obama's day and evening attire for his big day on January 20th. There were over 54 designer sketches. Above I picked out the most interesting ones but you can check out the other designs at WWD. Many of the designers picked a classic look with a different color variation for the tie (Red or Blue).

A Preview of Rachel Roy's Pre-Fall 2009

Depending on where you are in the world, some of us can't even rap our minds around the idea of fall clothes due to the arctic temperatures! As a coping mechanism, I decided to entice you with something to look forward to while coping with the cold temperatures. Rachel Roy's pre-fall 09 seems to have rich colors like orange, blue and neutral. According to WWD, Roy was inspired by the film, Bugsy Malone. Her design aesthetic for this collection was aimed at "not taking yourself to seriously". I think that this collection is different for Roy in that she seems to be thinking of the everyday woman! I think in our current economic climate, designers must begin to think about more practical designs...So, lets just hope that her price tag matches this philosophy!

What should Michelle Obama wear? Well some of us may already know that Michelle has been known for supporting up coming and cost effective designers and fashion retailers such as Isabel Toledo and J-crew. There is a strong buzz in the fashion industry to see if she will wear a major power house designer or continue to support the emerging designer. WWD submitted a request to see inspired sketches of the Inaugural dress from some of the major players in the industry. There were over a dozen of dresses to choose from, I wanted to show all 35 sketches but I thought that it would be a bit obsessive. So, I just settled for 10 of the most interesting looking sketches. Check out more sketches at WWD and Tell me who you think she should wear if any!

Louis Vuitton and Sprouse

Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton are paying homage to Stephen Sprouse. Sprouse was a fashion designer who was famous for his 80's mix of pop and punk. Jacobs is using his 2001 hit collaboration with sprouse for a new, limited edition collection of accessories and ready to wear . Marc Jacobs took to iconic Sprouse motifs--the graffiti and the rose and interpreted them in Day-Glo shades of pink, orange and green over the monogram print. The motifs are featured on Vuitton's speedy, keepall and neverfull styles, as well as basketball sneaker boots, pumps, sunglasses, headbands and small leather goods. The ready to wear includes leggings, a mini dress and a mackintosh raincoat. These new pieces will hit Louis Vuitton boutiques world wide January 9th. Harper's Bazaar will also feature Jacobs in the January issue. LV will pay further tribute with a special web site, welovesporuse.com--slated to go live December 15th.
