Michelle Obama Shows Loyalty to Small Retailers!

First Lady, Michelle Obama continues to operate out of her mantra...All for the people. I'm very impressed that she has remained consistent in this theme concerning political affairs as well as her calculating attempts to choose unknown designers and boutique owners. Apparently, Michelle consults with Ikram Goldmen, a Chicago boutique owner that carries many of the designers that Michelle has wore to date. Many media outlets are calling her the gatekeeper between the fashion industry and first lady. All details regarding the making of the first lady's wardrobe for the inagural was overseen by Mrs. Goldmen, who kept designers in the dark about whether their outfit would be chosen. According to Mrs. Obama's press secretary, "Mrs. Obama has shopped at Ikram's boutique for years and appreciates her shared interests in working with a broad array of designers, including many young up and coming designers."

What are your thoughts? Do you think Michelle should deal with the designers directly or Is it okay for someone of her ranking to deal with just the retailer? Many designers are hesitant to deal with Mrs. Goldman and unsettled by Michelle's decision to not deal with the Designers directly like so many other First Lady's have done in the past...Share your thoughts

Rachel Roy and Macy's

It appears that Macy's is trying to stay in the retail game by snagging one of my favorite designers, Rachel Roy. Rachel Roy will launch a contemporary lifestyle brand called Rachel Rachel Roy to be sold exclusively at Macy's. Rachel Roy is known for her tailored designs and exclusive prices. However, many of you may now be able to afford a great piece from her collection without breaking the bank. The collection at Macy's will include apparel, footwear and accesories and will launch in 85 stores in August 2009.

Inspiration Board: Bold Colors, Stripes and April Flowers!

For the last couple of months, I have been struggling to find my creative pulse. I tried everything you could imagine...I read my typical fashion magazines, I checked out my favorite blogs, visited my favorite boutiques and I still came up with zero inspiration. It then became clear to me that I needed to change my current environment. I am an avid believer of energy and sometimes our energy sensors need refreshed. So,I decided to take a mini trip to DC as a way to refocus and reboot. During my trip to DC the Cherry blossom festival was taking place and I did a lot of people watching and noticed many women and men on the street were wearing bold colors. So the mantra for this post is to be Bold, Blossom where you are planted(Words spoken from a great poet) and remember everyday is a fashion show and the world is your runway!!

In addition, I hope some of the sayings above inspire you during those times you find your self in a fashion rut! Expect to see more Inspirational Board postings...In the meantime, share and tell us What is your inspiration...

TopShop Has Landed In NYC!

TopShop, a london based retailer, is opening their doors in grand fashion today at its new SoHo address. It's the chains first chain in the US and the most anticipated grand opening. If you have never heard of this retailer, think of HM but hipper, youthful and a quick find for statement pieces. My first introduction to this chain was their on-line store. They have some of the best statement jackets and skirts!
